• the humans look up, whereas the other animals look down. Found the line “They seem promising” incredibly moving
  • made me want to read Ovid
  • the story of Io is moving. Io is turned into a cow by Jupiter to hide the victim of his lust (he rapes her) from Jove, she runs around (I can’t remember, does she have Furies on her head? probably confusing it with another myth) and finds her father’s house (she nudges him gently, because he is old - so powerful) and write her name - an I and then an O - in the dirt. She’s turned back into a human; she finds her tongue becoming strange and weighty in her mouth when her child (daughter? son? don’t recall) asks her about her father
  • Liked Orpheus - apparently he’s great - I need to know more about him
  • Adonis is born out of the belly of Myrrha (Smyrna) after she sleeps with her father whilst a festival is going on when women turn away from (don’t sleep with) their husbands - that was her in. She’s turned into a tree and Adonis falls out of her when she is already in tree form

  • question which ones did Sami write? (authors: Sami Ibrahim & Laura Lomas & Sabrina Mahfouz)
